Allotment

The St Ives Foodbank had an allotment used by volunteers to grow fresh vegetables for distribution through the Foodbank. SADLY this now no longer operates due to a lack of take up of fresh vegetables by those in need and a lack of volunteers with transport to get to the plot.

We would like to thank the Town Council and the Allotment Association for their support in this part of the project whilst it operated.

We took possession of the plots on 2nd April 2012. One plot is overgrown with couch grass, the other partially overgrown but had been partly worked. We have started work on the second plot and begun planting some of the donated plants and seeds. Below are photos of the plot as at 24th April 2012 after strimming the overgrown plot.

We invite donations of gardening tools, fertilizers, seeds/seedlings, bamboo canes, compost, and money towards maintaining the allotment plot. If you wish to donate please contact the co-ordinator Chris.

The B&Q Community Project Support team visited the plots on Tuesday 1st May 2012 to assess how they may be able to assist us.

On the 2nd May 2012 Travis Perkins delivered some donated fencing materials so we hope to start erecting the fence on the coming weekend.

The screening is now completed but a lack of volunteers has meant that little has been achieved in 2013 so far. So if you need some exercise and like gardening please get in touch.
